Job Description
Perform a variety of tasks in an operating room that assist the surgical team. Key activities include arranging sterile setups for surgical procedures, passing instruments to surgeons, preparing sterile supplies, assisting in cleanup, and ensuring the proper operation of surgical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
- Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment.
- Adjust and check equipment to ensure it is working properly.
- Prepare patients for surgery by ensuring aseptic incision sites.
- Transport patients to the operating room and help position them on the operating table.
- Assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
- Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons during surgery.
- Hold retractors or instruments, cut sutures, and assist with sponges or suctioning during procedures.
- Help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
- Assist in the preparation and disposal of specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure medications are labeled and handed to surgeons according to established policies.
- Help transfer patients to the recovery room after surgery and clean the operating room.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- 2 years of experience as a surgical technologist required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) preferred.
