Emergency Department Registered Nurse

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

All contracts must run through January earliest with flexible end dates. Expected shifts include rotations for days and nights, with a schedule of 36 hours per week (7am-7pm / 7pm-7am).

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient progress.

Responsibilities

• Conducts primary assessments of critical needs, detecting and documenting deviations from norms across all age groups.
• Utilizes relationship-based care principles to alleviate patient anxiety and provide information.
• Establishes rapport with patients and families, addressing comfort needs and providing frequent updates.
• Encourages mutual trust and cooperation among team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Prepares patients, parents, or families for diagnostic procedures and treatments while making referrals for post-emergency care.
• Teaches the patient what is needed to continue care at home and evaluates understanding through questions.
• Maintains awareness of patients’ conditions throughout their emergency visit and updates communication boards accordingly.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• One year of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only) required.
• New York State RN Licensure required.
