Job Description
This position is responsible for providing occupational therapy services to the outpatient populations, including assessment, treatment, and care, as well as participating in educational instruction with patients and their families. The Occupational Therapist must be competent in interpreting a patient's self-report, behavior, and understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental processes. Treatments should be individualized to reflect the developmental needs and range of treatment requirements for each patient.
Responsibilities
- Obtain thorough patient, medical, and social histories, and current status information.
- Evaluate each patient as directed by the ordering physician, developing care plans and administering treatments for physical disabilities resulting from injury, disease, or surgery.
- Re-evaluate and assess patient status, initiating changes in treatment programs as needed.
- Administer therapeutic treatments using physical agents, biomechanical and neurophysiological principles, and assistive devices.
- Document pertinent information after providing direct patient care, utilizing the electronic medical record.
- Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans and procedures.
- Ensure all patient care equipment and the work environment are safe and effective, immediately reporting any deficiencies.
- Provide direction to all assisting support staff for occupational therapy patient care.
- Efficiently organize daily workload and monitor time management for self and assisting support staff.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association preferred, advanced degree or training preferred.
- Active or eligible to obtain a Washington State Occupational Therapist license.
- One year of outpatient care experience preferred.
- Hand therapy and splinting experience preferred.
- Able to evaluate and provide care across the age continuum, from school-aged to geriatric patients.
