Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care through intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, adhering to the scope of their professional license with minimal supervision. They evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans, explain procedures, and provide necessary education upon patient discharge. The role involves conducting physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation. Additionally, the therapist performs chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry, capnography monitoring, and routine review of chest x-rays to determine further evaluation needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory, oxygen, and aerosol devices.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods.
  • Monitor patients through oximetry and capnography.
  • Review and evaluate chest x-rays and perform 12-Lead EKGs.
  • Assist with respiratory care procedures such as Bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
  • Perform tracheostomy care and arterial punctures according to policy.
  • Conduct pulmonary function studies and maintain documentation per policy.
  • Communicate efficiently with physicians regarding therapy effectiveness and patient responses.
  • Maintain accurate respiratory therapy records and billing information.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist is required. Experience in performing the above-listed duties in a healthcare setting is preferred.
