Job Description

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room by assisting the surgical team with various tasks to ensure a successful surgical procedure. This position involves preparing surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring a sterile environment, and providing direct support to surgeons during operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
• Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment and adjust all necessary devices for functionality.
• Prepare patients for surgery, ensuring aseptic incision sites.
• Assist the surgical team in donning sterile gowns and gloves.
• Pass instruments and other sterile supplies efficiently to surgeons during surgery.
• Hold retractors, cut sutures, sponge, or suction the operative site under supervision.
• Assist in the preparation and care for specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Ensure all medications are properly labeled and distributed according to protocols.
• Help transfer patients post-surgery and clean and restock the operating room.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment, following aseptic techniques.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Must have 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Compliance with PA Act 31, PA Act 33, PA Act 34, and PA Act 73 is necessary.

Schedule

This position operates on a rotating shift schedule of 12 hours, for 3 days a week.
