Respiratory Therapist - Night Shift

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining procedures and equipment, and providing education at discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using various methods.
• Conduct oximetry and capnography monitoring according to policy.
• Review patient's chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
• Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures such as Bronchoscopy and Chest Tube placement.
• Administer adequate drainage via PleurX catheter when applicable.
• Provide tracheostomy care, including tube insertion and removal.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
• Follow laboratory testing policies, including specimen handling and documentation.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up and self-test all ventilatory equipment, maintaining and monitoring mechanical ventilation.
• Record treatment information and communicate with medical staff regarding patient care.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and data entry.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Current respiratory therapist license required. Significant experience in respiratory care is preferred.
