Job Description
This position delegates responsibility to the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Aides. Activities of this position are patient-focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with occupational therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates the patient’s function by performing formal/informal testing measures to determine skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular status, developmental, social, and cognitive functions.
- Develops a goal-specific treatment regime based on assessment data and the patient’s tolerance to carry out the treatment plan as prescribed.
- Submits a written treatment regime to be included as part of the plan of treatment authorized by and coordinated with the physician, updating the plan of care to reflect changes in patient status as needed.
- Devises a schedule of treatment, with frequency and duration specifics, to be discussed with the patient, family, and/or caregiver, coordinated with clinical support staff.
- Educates the patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding pathology or condition, patient alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment through forms of rest, exercise, modalities, and other indicated interventions.
- Provides supervision for Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students per affiliate and regulatory standards.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- OT Experience - Primarily outpatient, some acute care - Required
- Skills Checklist, current to 1 year, pertinent to the specialty (Occupational Therapy) - Required
- 2 Supervisory Reference Forms Completed within the last two years - Required
- Active American Heart Association BLS - Required
- LARA must state Active Michigan Occupational Therapist License - Required
