Job Description
The Surgical Technologist performs a variety of tasks in the operating room to assist the surgical team. This includes arranging sterile setups for surgical procedures, passing instruments, preparing sterile supplies, and ensuring a clean, safe environment throughout the surgical process.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
- Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment; adjust and check equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
- May transport patients to the operating room, assist in positioning, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
- Assist the surgical team with donning sterile gowns and gloves.
- During surgery, pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and assist in counting sponges and instruments.
- Care for and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis; assist in applying dressings.
- Ensure all medications are labeled and handed to the surgeon according to established policies.
- After surgery, help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by staying alert to safety and explosive hazards and adhering to aseptic techniques.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- 2 years of experience required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) certification.
