Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care/Telemetry unit will be responsible for assessing and obtaining health history data from patients, families, and significant others, as well as reviewing previous medical records. This role requires interaction with patients that adhere to developmental principles of communication, and completion of admission assessments within an acceptable time frame. The RN will notify consults when admission criteria are identified and complete the Braden scale appropriately.

The nurse will continuously reassess developmental, biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, and educational needs, creating individualized care plans that are age-appropriate, involve the patient and their support system, and reflect safety and educational needs. Regular updates and revisions to the plan of care will be made in consultation with the patient, family, and caregivers as the patient's status changes.

The role includes patient education, documentation of the patient's response to interventions, and participation in interdisciplinary meetings. The RN will monitor telemetry, manage cardiac medications, and assist with elective cardioversion when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Collect health history data and perform admission assessments.
• Identify and notify consults based on admission criteria.
• Complete and update the Braden scale as needed.
• Continually reassess patient needs and update the plan of care.
• Provide individualized teaching and discharge planning for patients and families.
• Document patient responses accurately and timely in accordance with policy.
• Monitor telemetry and manage high-risk cardiac drugs.
• Respond to chest pain protocols and follow telemetry standing orders.
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient care.

Required Experience

• 1-2 years of experience in Cardiac/Telemetry nursing.
• 1-2 years in Acute Care nursing.
• Basic dysrhythmia experience is required.

Certifications/Licensure

• Valid New Jersey RN License is required.
• BLS Certification is required.
• ACLS Certification is required.
• PCCN Certification is preferred.
• BSN is preferred or enrollment in a BSN program.
