The town played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War with Carlisle Barracks, the second-oldest Army post to serve as a supply headquarters for soldiers. It's also home to Dickinson College, the first college founded in the newly formed United States in 1783. Take a self-guided walking tour to learn more about Carlisle's history, and you'll find a wide range of shops, eateries, bars and cultural attractions, including an art deco-style theater.
