We are seeking Medical Lab Scientist who are committed to teamwork, clinical excellence, and serving our community.
Medical Lab Scientists perform various tests to analyze the blood, body fluids and tissues as ordered by Healthcare personnel. Under the general supervision of departmental section supervisors and/or lead techs, precisely and accurately orders, performs and evaluates technical procedures in the different subsections of the clinical laboratory department. Properly collects blood specimens ensuring patient safety and consistency with age-specific considerations for all patients, neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics as well as employees. Receives, processes, and distributes specimens appropriately and in a timely manner. Properly stores specimens for further testing, as needed. Assists with the training of new employees and students. Maintains equipment and supply inventory. Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies (i.e. attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality) and procedures. Maintains knowledge and practices current regulatory guidelines. Prepares and participates in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CAP and AABB. Follows best practice for infection control in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Performs phlebotomy. Properly processes specimens for in-house as well as reference lab testing. Preserves and packages specimens in accordance with applicable guidelines for the safe transport of biological specimens.
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment and work area. Maintains adequate supply inventory.
- Performs laboratory analysis and interprets results in a variety of disciplines. Verifies critical lab results by repeat analysis and specimen recollection, where appropriate.
- Accurately demonstrates skills with pipetting and diluting specimens.
- Identifies inefficiencies and inaccuracies, responding appropriately and making recommendations for resolution. Actively participates in departmental and interdepartmental PI activities.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as:
- military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489
- have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on an HHS examination before 2/28/92 42 CFR 493.1491
- Licensure/Certification:
- Registered or registry eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS within 12 months of hire).
- Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES or AICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Experience: 6 months to 1 year of medical laboratory technologist, clinical laboratory scientist experience in acute care facility
