1st shift, 3x12s 6a-6pDuties:
Job Summary:
Responsible to perform daily Respiratory Care procedures as assigned, which include but are not limited to medication administration via aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, percussion and postural drainage, noninvasive ventilation, mechanical ventilation, CPR, bedside pulmonary function screening, and arterial blood gases. Able to perform in all emergency situations and provide intubation, if applicable.
Job Responsibilities:
--30% Ventilation and Non-Invasive Ventilation Management:
-Manages and assesses patients on mechanical and non-invasive ventilation.
-Educates patient and family on issues pertinent to their care on the ventilator.
-Follows through on pertinent protocols.
-Manages ventilators for neonatal/pediatrics and adults according to protocol pertinent for each age group.
--25% Patient care procedures and medication administration:
-Assesses the appropriateness of therapy and makes recommendations.
-Performs, assesses, and instructs the effective administration of oxygen, aerosol medications, humidification, suctioning, and chest physiotherapy.
-Patient/family education will also include the safe and effective use of equipment where applicable.
-Performs effective airway management, supportive ventilation, and chest compressions during CPR.
-Administers medications and assesses patient response.
-Takes and records verbal orders for respiratory care procedures.
-Performs additional duties as assigned.
--15% Arterial Blood Gases:
-Obtains arterial blood gases without direct supervision.
-Processes the blood gases without direct supervision.
-Reports results without direct supervision.
--10% Documentation:
-Performs charting in EPIC.
-Enters orders in EPIC.
-Utilizes EPIC to acknowledge/resolve all completed and cancelled orders.
-Completes department forms in a timely manner.
--10% Equipment and Supplies:
-Assists in the maintenance of all Respiratory Care equipment.
-Troubleshoots when necessary and communicates equipment needs to supervisor.
-Cleans equipment during downtime.
--10% Supports other members of the department and in other hospital departments as a team player:
-Follows department policies and procedures.
-Serves as a resource for nursing, physicians, and respiratory orientees and students.
-Evaluates, monitors, analyzes, and makes recommendations in Quality Improvement activities.
-Responds to all respiratory care pages in a timely manner.
-Assists with education programs that will help the staff improve their knowledge, attitude, and skills in relation to the needs of the services offered.
-Complies with all relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations and the requirements of accrediting bodies.
-Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards, and national patient safety goals.
-Ensures positive customer relations interactions.
-Manages difficult or emotional customer situations.
-Responds promptly to customer needs.
-Solicits customer feedback to improve service.
-Responds to requests for service and assistance.
-Meets commitments.
