Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Float Nurse to provide critical support for Emergency Department (ED) Holds at Vineland. This role involves floating within the specialty to assist with Step Down (SD) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) holds, as well as Acute Care holds when needed. The position requires expertise in managing a variety of patient care needs, including trach care, bariatrics, nocturnal vents, and stroke care. Nurses will float within their specialty and to Elmer as required. This is a contract position designed to ensure seamless patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for ED holds in Step Down/PCU and Acute Care settings, adhering to assigned patient ratios (1:5 for SD/PCU; 1:6 if floated to Acute Care).
- Manage specialized care areas:
- Medical Surgical Division (MSD): Care for peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients.
- Cardiac Surgical Division (CSD): Care for stroke patients.
- Surgical Specialty Division (SSD): Care for surgical patients.
- Perform trach care, bariatric patient management, nocturnal ventilation support, and stroke care as needed.
- Float within specialty and to Elmer to support unit needs and maintain optimal patient care.
- Utilize Cerner for charting and documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Respond to ED holds by providing inpatient-level support, drawing on PCU experience.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must have PCU experience to handle Step Down and Acute Care holds.
- ED experience is a plus; inpatient experience is required.
- Valid RN license: New Jersey (NJ) or Compact State.
- Current certifications (AHA only): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
- Strong clinical skills in critical care, patient assessment, and emergency response.
- Ability to work in a float role, adapting to various units and patient populations.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and time-management skills.
Schedule and Contract Details
- Hours: 48 hours per week (4 x 12-hour shifts).
- Weekends: Every other weekend.
- Contract Length: 8 weeks with likely extension.
- Holidays: 1 per contract if needed.
- RTO (Requested Time Off): No more than 3 days.
- Shift Details: Flexible based on unit needs; position supports ED holds, so availability for variable shifts is essential.
Orientation and Onboarding
Orientation is mandatory and must be completed in full; failure to do so will result in immediate termination. Candidates do not have the option to reschedule any classes once scheduled.
- Pre-Start Communication: Candidates will receive an email directly from client the Friday before their Monday start. This email includes:
- Instructions for signing on to the Virtual Welcome meeting and online Health-Stream Modules from Human Resources (prior to 8:30 AM on Monday).
- On Monday, GEO (General Education Orientation) will be virtual from the candidate's own computer. All assigned modules must be completed by Monday, or the candidate will be removed from the orientation list.
- In-person class schedule (typically Tuesday-Thursday), held in multiple locations. Use HealthStream to confirm class location on the day of. Note: POCT class is required but not during orientation week.
- Unit-based orientation schedule provided by the manager.
- Badge ID Link: Instructions for making an in-person appointment to receive the ID badge (photo submissions not permitted). Must be completed during orientation. The badge is required for clock-ins.
