Job Title: CVOR Surgical Tech
Location: Charlotte, NC
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift Details: 10hr Night Shift (40 hours/week) – Monday to Thursday | 7:00 PM – 5:30 AM | Call required | 75% Holiday requirement
Job Summary
The CVOR Surgical Technologist assists in cardiovascular and general surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, preparing instruments, and providing intraoperative support. This role requires strong experience across CVOR and Main OR specialties.
Facility Overview
- 337 licensed beds
- No Trauma designation
- Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Non-teaching hospital
- Radius rule: Must reside 50 miles from facility
Unit Overview
- 13 OR rooms 1 procedure/cysto room
- Average 45 cases per day
- Minimum 2 years of OR/CVOR experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain sterile surgical field
- Assist surgeons by passing instruments and supplies
- Ensure proper setup and functioning of surgical equipment
- Perform scrubbing duties across multiple specialties
- Maintain instrument and supply counts
- Assist with patient positioning and OR setup
- Collaborate with surgical team and anesthesia staff
Patient Population & Procedures
Main OR Procedures include
- Orthopedic: Joint replacements, arthroscopies, fracture repairs
- Spine: Fusions, laminectomies, microdiscectomies
- General: Laparoscopic and open procedures including hernia, colon, and abdominal surgeries
- Breast: Lumpectomies and mastectomies
- Urology: TURP, cystoscopy, nephrectomy
- GYN: Hysterectomies and related procedures
- Plastics and podiatry procedures
- Robotic surgeries across specialties
CVOR Procedures include
- Cardiothoracic: CABG, AVR, MVR, septal myomectomy
- Vascular: Bypass, carotid procedures, thrombectomy
- Thoracic: VATS, lobectomy, pericardial window
Required Qualifications
- BLS Certification – Required
- Completion of accredited Surgical Tech program – Required
- National Certification – Preferred
- Minimum 2 years CVOR/OR experience
Skills Required
- Strong CVOR experience including CABG, TAVR, vascular and thoracic cases
- Ability to scrub across multiple specialties
- Proficiency in sterile technique and instrumentation
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
Department Support
- OR Assistants (6 weekdays) for turnovers and support
- Charge Nurse and HUC
- Anesthesia/CRNA coverage 24/7
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Philips
Floating Requirements
- None
Orientation
- Main OR: 1 week
- CVOR: 2 weeks
- Orientation includes five 8-hour shifts
Scheduling Details
- Call requirement:
- 4–5 weekday call shifts per 6-week schedule (as early as 5 PM – 7 AM)
- 1–2 weekend call rotations per 6-week schedule (Friday 5 PM – Monday 7 AM)
- Weekend: Call only
- Holidays: 75% required
