RN - OR
About Facility:
o 900 licensed beds
o Level 1 Trauma Designation
o Level 1 Pediatric Trauma – Levine Children s Hospital
o Teaching Hospital
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center
o Magnet Designation
o Cannot live within 50 miles of facility
General Information:
o Suites: 32 OR 1 procedure
Census? Average patients/day? 70-100 cases per day
o Minimum Years of Experience?
Surg Techs: 2 years in a Level I or II Trauma Center. Will not accept Level III or below
RNs: 2 years in a Level I or II Trauma Center. Will not accept Level III or below
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? No, for RNs and Surg Techs
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o General, transplants, minimally invasive/laparoscopic surgeries, robotics (DaVinci XI), GYN, surgical and ortho oncology, orthopedic trauma, neuro spine, neuro heads/brains, skull-based tumors, plastics, deep flap reconstructions, head/neck free flaps, airways
o If position is for Nights, robotics surgeries are not started, but if any are going on when Night shift crew comes in, will finish those
Required Licensure & Certifications:
o Surgical Tech: BLS, Must be a graduate of surgical tech program. CST preferred but not required
o RN: BLS
Skills required:
o Surg Techs: Experience with above case types, Ortho trauma is a must, Head/neck free flaps (plastics reconstruction), Microsurgery
o RN: prefer experience with case types above, circulating cases, must be comfortable with traumas (MVAs, GSW, blunt force trauma, head/neck injuries), ex-laps, cranies. Will not prep or recover patients.
o Preferred: comfortable setting up Cardiac cases (no scrubbing or circulating)
o Soft Skills: team player, flexible, willing to learn
Support within the Department:
o Clinical Supervisor
o Charge RN 24/7
o OR Assistants
o Anesthesia/CRNA team
o Supportive leadership team
o Service Line Leads during the day
o Materials team including SPD
Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC – preferred for RNs
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
Floating: If yes, where and how often?
o None
Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO
o Remainder of the week will be in orientation. Manager is open to additional time if needed but must communicate this.
Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: call only, see below
o On call? Yes, for Surg Techs and RNs
1900-2300 late call once per week
One weekend call shift every 6-8 weeks. Weekend call is 0600 Saturday – 0600 Monday
If working Nights, no call required (subject to change). Manager open to traveler picking up call if wanted. Would be overnight call
1 hour response time
o Holiday Expectations: 50% of holidays in a contract
o RTO approvals: To go through manager
o Shift times:
Days: 0625-1900. Tardy is after 0625
Nights: 1825-0700. Tardy is after 1825
o Schedule cycle: Modified self-schedule with manger oversight. Manager is open to block scheduling.

o Scrub Color: Provided. Extended sizing available if needed
