Unit Information

• Unit: 2nd Floor ICU / Critical Care
• Beds: 17
• Ratios:
  • RN: 1:2 (acuity-based)
  • CNA: 1:8 days | 1:17 nights

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required
• First-time travelers accepted with 3 years ICU experience
• CRRT (NxStage) experience preferred

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS

• NIHSS

Required ICU Skills

Candidates should have strong experience with:

• Ventilator & trach management
• Invasive lines:
  • A-line
  • CVP
  • Swan-Ganz
• Drains/tube management
• Foley management
• Chest tubes
• Post-surgical recovery
• Post-cath patients
• Fresh hearts (preferred)
• CVVH
• Balloon Pumps
• CRRT (NxStage)

General ICU

• IVDA
• Overdose
• SI/behavioral
• Delirium
• GI Bleed
• Stroke with TPA
• Acute Renal Failure

Surgical

• General surgery
• Open abdomen
• Ortho / total joints
• ENT
• OBGYN

Cardiac/Vascular

• Fem-pop bypass
• CABG
• Valve procedures
• Post-cath (radial approach)
• AAA
• Amputations

No complex neuro patients; post TNK/TPA only

Support Staff

• Intensivist coverage 24/7
• RT available 24/7
• ICU Pharmacist (days)
• Charge RN (may take assignment)
• Unit Secretary: 0700–1930
• Educator support
• Phlebotomy team
• Bedside telemetry monitoring

Floating

Travelers float first to:

• Intermediate units (1:3)
• MSU
• ED Boarding (1:4)
• Observation units (1:4)

Orientation

• 1-day orientation
• Day 1 includes:
  • Educator onboarding
  • Badge/access setup
  • CBLs/login setup
  • Meet & greet with Nurse Manager
  • Preceptor shift remainder
