Position Details

• Job Title: RN – Med Surg / Telemetry
• Duration: 13 Weeks
• Schedule: Day Shift – 3x12s
• Hours: 36 hours/week
• Shift Time: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-Call Requirement: None

• 457 licensed beds
• Level III Trauma Center
• Teaching Hospital
• Chest Pain Center
• Stroke Center of Excellence
• Bariatric Center of Excellence
• Traveler's permanent residence must be outside a 50-mile radius from home unit

Department Information

• Unit Size: 10 beds
• Average Daily Census: 8 patients
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
• First-time travelers not preferred, but may be considered

Patient Population

• Chest pain
• Syncope
• Angina
• Stroke and telemetry patients

Requirements

• Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience
• BLS required
• ACLS required
• NIHSS required (Resource Team requirement)
• EPIC experience preferred/required

Required Skills

• Stroke care experience
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Trach care
• Peripheral IV starts
• Chest tube management
• NGT placement
• Drain/tube management:
  • Dobhoff
  • PEG tubes
  • Hemovac
  • JP drains
  • Flexiseals
  • Foley catheter insertion/management
• PCA pump management
• Medication drip management:
  • Cardiac drips
  • Heparin
  • Blood products
  • IV fluids

Support Staff & Resources

• Supervisor
• Charge RN (may or may not take patients)
• Resource RN for admissions/discharges
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Hospitalists available 24/7
• IV/VAT Team
• Shared phlebotomy support

Technology & Equipment

• EMR: EPIC
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Omnicell

Floating Requirements

• Must be willing to float within Region 1 facilities based on staffing needs and scope of practice:
  • Cabarrus
  • University City
  • Stanly
  • Lake Norman
  • Central Division
  • CMC Main
  • Mercy
  • LCH (Peds only)
• Travelers remain on the clock when floating between facilities mid-shift

Orientation & Scheduling

• New Employee Orientation (NEO)
• 2 days departmental orientation
• Schedule cycle every 6 weeks
• Travelers required to work 75% of holidays
• Up to 6 days RTO may be approved (excluding holidays)
