JOB DESCRIPTION
CVOR Surgical Tech
· About Facility:
o 900 licensed beds
o Level 1 Trauma Designation
o Level 1 Pediatric Trauma – Levine Children’s Hospital
o Teaching Hospital
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center
o Magnet Designation
· Unit Information:
o 7 ORs dedicated to Adult and Peds Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular
o Department will support Cath Lab and EP Lab
o Minimum Experience Required:
· RN: 2-year CVOR experience
· Surg Tech: at least 2 years of Adult CVOR experience
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
· Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Cardiac/Vascular/Thoracic Surgery
· Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
o RN: BLS
o Surg Tech: BLS and Certification preferred but not required
· Skills required:
· RN: Strong CVOR experience is required with ability to work independently with minimal guidance all Cardiac (Adult required and Pediatric preferred), Vascular, Thoracic (Robotic experience preferred). Hybrid OR experience preferred. Epic experience is preferred
o Surg Tech: experience with adult CVOR case types
· Support within the Department:
o Clinical Supervisor
o Charge RN
o OR Assistants
o Anesthesia/CRNA team
o Experienced peer support
· Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Unit specific equipment: not specified
· Floating: If yes, where?
o Possibly to Pineville CVOR but unlikely
· Orientation (facility and unit):
o Depends on experience level
o NEO
o 2 days departmental
· Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation:
· RN: Will only work weekends if on call and scheduled person calls out
· Surg Tech: May have to cover nights or weekends if in house person calls out and you are on call
o Call required:
· RN: Usually about once per week and 2 weekends in a 6-week schedule
· Surg Tech: 1 night per week and 2 weekends in a 6-week scheduling period
· Call Back Time: 1 hour
· Sleep Room available
o Holiday Expectations: might be required if they fall within contract period
o RTO: Manager approval
o Shift times: varies
o Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
· Other notes:
o Scrub Color: Personal scrubs to and from the hospital but hospital issued scrubs in the OR
o Parking: Free
o Unit Culture: Good
