Job Title: Travel Cath Lab Technician
Location: Tennessee (Various Facilities)
Employment Type: Travel Contract (Typically 13 weeks)
Job Summary
A Travel Cath Lab Technician assists physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. The technician is responsible for preparing patients and equipment, maintaining a sterile environment, monitoring patient status, and ensuring high-quality imaging throughout procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the cardiac catheterization lab before procedures.
- Assist physicians during cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, stent placements, electrophysiology procedures, and other vascular interventions.
- Operate fluoroscopy and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
- Scrub, circulate, and monitor procedures as assigned.
- Prepare and maintain sterile instruments and supplies.
- Monitor patient vital signs and report changes to the physician and nursing staff.
- Administer contrast media and assist with medication preparation (as permitted by facility policy).
- Document procedure details accurately.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety and infection control standards.
- Respond to emergency situations during procedures.
- Participate in on-call rotation, including weekends and holidays, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology or Radiologic Technology program.
- Minimum 2 years of recent Cath Lab experience in an acute care hospital.
- Experience with:
- Coronary angiography
- PCI (angioplasty/stent placement)
- Peripheral vascular procedures
- Structural heart procedures (preferred)
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Required Certifications
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
- One of the following, depending on facility requirements:
- Cath Lab Tech Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous travel assignment experience.
- Experience with EP Lab or Interventional Radiology procedures.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Wear lead aprons for prolonged periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle sterile instruments and equipment.
Schedule
- 5 x 8-hour shifts
- Call requirements commonly include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Contract length is generally 13 weeks, with the possibility of extension.
