Respiratory Therapist – Job Description

Facility Overview

  • 255 licensed beds
  • No trauma designation
  • Not a teaching hospital
  • Chest Pain Center
  • Stroke Center
  • Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles from facility

Department Overview

  • Average census: 225 patients/day
  • Minimum experience required: 2 years
  • First-time travelers: Accepted

Patient Population

  • Adults only
  • May float through all units
  • Possible pediatric cases in ED
  • No Labor & Delivery (L&D)

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Required: BLS, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), NC Licensure
  • Preferred: ACLS
  • CRT not accepted

Required Skills

  • ICU
  • Emergency Department (ED)
  • Progressive Care

Equipment & Technology

  • EMR: EPIC
  • Equipment: Servo ventilators, Nitric Oxide, Volara, Airvo 2, Synclaire

Floating Policy

  • Required to float across Region 1 facilities within scope of practice
  • Must agree to floating (declines not accepted)
  • If floating mid-shift, travel time between facilities is paid (on the clock)

Orientation

  • NEO orientation
  • 2 days departmental orientation

Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift: 12-hour days (0700–1900)
  • Weekly hours: 36 hours
  • Schedule cycle: 6 weeks
  • Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
  • On-call: None
  • Holidays: Must work 75% of holidays
  • RTO: Up to 6 days approved (must extend contract if hours not met)
