Interventional Radiology Tech
● About Facility:
o Monroe, North Carolina
o 174 licensed beds
o Not a Trauma Designation
o Not a Teaching Hospital
o Chest Pain Center? No, but part of Lee Garvey Chest Pain Network
o Stroke Center
o Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
● Unit Information:
o Beds: 7 bays prep/recovery, 1 Cath Lab, 1 IR Lab
o Minimum Years of Experience required? At least 1 year of Cath Lab Tech experience
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? No – at least (1) 13-week assignment required
o Flow of Department: Typically, 2-3 Cath's in am, if Cath's are not scheduled in the afternoon, Cath Lab will be used for Procedural/IR overflow cases
● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Cardiac, Device placement, Vascular needs
o Pacemaker and Defibrillator insertion/manipulation
o Ports, PICCS, Arteriograms, Nephrostomy tubes, UAE (if needed), Hickman
o Heavy Vascular: any lower extremity angiogram, occasional upper/fistulagram, interventional cases, PE, DVT, thrombolytics, venograms, fistula creation
o Cath Lab: right and left heart Cath with intervention, pericardiocentesis, etc. – mostly radial but some femoral
● Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
o Cath Lab Tech: BLS, ACLS, ARRT or RCIS
● Skills required:
o Cath Lab Tech:
▪ EPIC/Encompass experience and MERGE is required – hard stop please decline travelers without this
▪ Comfortability with scrubbing and recording in the above cases – if there are 1-2 that the traveler is not competent in, please pass along to manager for approval
▪ Will not be required to circulate – RN will circulate
● Support within the Department:
o Cath Lab leadership
o Small team (approx. 20 on Staff)
o Nursing Supervisor
o Charge RN
o RNs; RTRs and RCIS trained staff
● Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC/Encompass – required
o MERGE - required
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Philips
o Unit specific equipment: Merge Hemo; Siemens Xray; Balloon pumps (occasionally will see)
● Floating: If yes, where?
o No
● Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO (typically 1 day)
o ARL's – assigned and will have 30-45 days to complete
o 2 days departmental
● Scheduling:
o No Weekends
o No Call
o Holiday Expectations: will be closed on Major Holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYD
o RTO: Manager approval
o Shift times: Mon-Fri; will start 0800 and will finish by 1700
o Schedule cycle: every 13 weeks
