Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician III – Prescription Prior Authorization Technician (PAT) to support outpatient pharmacy operations by processing prescription prior authorization requests for providers. This role begins with 8–12 weeks of onsite training in Philadelphia, followed by fully remote work upon successful completion of training.
Working under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the PAT will independently manage prior authorization requests, review patient records within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), communicate with providers and outpatient pharmacies, and ensure timely completion of authorization requests while maintaining exceptional patient care and documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and submit prescription prior authorization requests for outpatient medications.
- Identify the appropriate Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) prior authorization forms.
- Review and extract patient, provider, prescription, and clinical information from the EMR.
- Complete and submit prior authorization requests accurately and within established turnaround times.
- Follow up on pending prior authorization requests and document approvals, denials, and status updates.
- Communicate authorization outcomes with outpatient pharmacies, providers, and clinical staff.
- Maintain accurate documentation and productivity metrics.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, providers, and pharmacy teams to ensure timely patient access to medications.
- Utilize ICD-10 diagnosis codes, clinical documentation, and disease-specific resources to support authorization requests.
- Maintain proficiency with EMR systems, Microsoft Office applications, and remote work technology.
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and a patient-centered approach while supporting departmental goals.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3–5 years of high-volume retail Pharmacy Technician experience required.
- Minimum 1 year of prior authorization experience required.
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Strong understanding of pharmacy benefit investigations and insurance prior authorization processes.
- Excellent attention to detail, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment following onsite training.
