General Information
Unit Specifics:
· Number of Beds : 18
· Patient Ratios : 1:4-5
· Unit staffing description- (unit secretaries and tech availability) :We use 2 PCT's and 1 Unit secretary
· Type of equipment :Alaris pumps, kangaroo pump, Pxysis, computers available in every room
· Documentation system: Meditech
· Scheduling requirements: Self scheduling – to include 3 weekend shifts per 4 weeks schedule
· On Call Requirements: none
· Floating policy: 1. Travelers, 2. PRN staff, 3. Date last floated
· Patient Experience requirements: We are working on nurse's courtesy and respect, and working together as a team to care for patients

Advanced skills needed:
The Telemetry & Pulm Step Down Unit (Tele/Pulm) cares for patients with moderate physiologic instability requiring support. Examples include COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF & trach patients. Tele/Pulm patients are hemodynamically stable that require cardiac & respiratory monitoring & management every 2-4 hours. The level of care of the Tele/Pulm unit requires less care than the ICU but more than that which is provided in the Medical/Surgical Units. This unit specializes in the care of cardiac and pulmonary patients.
Procedures performed on unit:
Oxygen therapy to include :
Nasal Cannula: All
BIPAP/CPAP: up to 80%
AirVo: Low Flo
Nursing Interventions:
At least every 3-4 hours
Vital Signs :
Every 4 hours
Continuous cardiac monitoring
Blood Glucose Monitoring :
Every 4 hours
Neurological monitoring :
Any frequency
NIHSS
Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, NIH
Dress Code : (Required uniform)
