Job Description:
Radiation Therapists use ionizing-radiation producing equipment to administer therapeutic doses of radiation as prescribed by physicians for treatment of disease – generally cancer.
A Radiation Therapist exposes specific areas of the patient's body to prescribed doses of radiation.
Maintain detailed records of all therapy sessions, noting in the patient's chart such information as the area treated, the radiation dosage, equipment control settings, the patient's reactions, and the total amount of radiation received to date.
Requires graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T) registry or registry eligibility in radiation therapy technology, and licensed by the State Department of Health Services.
A Radiation Therapist must be familiar with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of Radiation Therapy.
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish treatment goals. A Radiation Therapist performs a variety of tasks, works under general supervision and must utilize a certain degree of creativity and latitude.
Reports to the Physician and Supervisor. Operates all radiation generating equipment as directed to deliver the prescribed radiation dose in an accurate, safe and efficient manner.
Completes simulation / localization procedures as assigned (Not a requirement for an On-Call Therapist). Documents treatment and set up parameters in the patient’s medical record.
Schedules treatment and simulation appointments. Maintains treatment schedule and records statistical data. Observes prescribed radiation safety measures as outlined in State of California, Title 17, and in organization wide and department specific policy and procedures.
Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) duties as assigned. Fabricates immobilization and treatment devices as needed.
Reports equipment malfunction and maintains log book of repairs needed.
Reports patient status to nursing and/or medical staff while patient is undergoing radiation therapy.
Maintains a professional and supportive attitude toward all staff members, patients and their families. All other duties as assigned
1-year experience as a radiation therapist preferred. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must have basic computer skills. Interpersonal Skills: Facility is a set of value-based behaviors that are to be consistently demonstrated and role modeled by all employees that work at facility.
The facility principles consist of Caring, Communication, Collaboration, and Competence. Ability to function effectively under stress.
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy.
Licensure/Certifications:
Must hold a current State of California license in Radiation Therapy Technology (CRT-Therapy).
Must hold a current license with the American Registry of Radiation Technologists (ARRT).
Completion of annual requirements of NorthBay Healthcare, including: AHA or equivalent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
