Description
The Certified Surgical Technologist 3 is a key member of the surgical team, serving under the supervision of a licensed professional while taking on advanced responsibilities in patient care. As a competent practitioner, the Certified Surgical Technologist 3 also engages in initiatives beyond the surgical department. Responsibilities include maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring the functionality of equipment, and supporting both invasive and non-invasive procedures to ensure optimal patient safety. This role demands extensive expertise in aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical tools, and advanced surgical practices, all performed in alignment with the mission and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Demonstrates advanced expertise in the first scrub role for complex surgical procedures, utilizing specialized knowledge of advanced surgical techniques and instrumentation.
· Provides mentorship and guidance, supporting the professional development of peers and junior
staff through hands-on training and technical skill enhancement.
· Applies in-depth knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies, ensuring proper
selection, handling, and maintenance for optimal procedural outcomes.
· Utilizes critical thinking and advanced problem-solving abilities in high-stakes, complex surgical
situations, anticipating and addressing surgical team needs.
· Applies competent knowledge of aseptic techniques, surgical anatomy, and operative procedures
to maintain an environment that maximizes patient safety and procedural efficiency.
· Participates in the development of best practices and quality improvements by actively
participating in departmental or hospital-wide committees, such as Laser Safety, Process
Improvement, or Emergency Response.
· Participates continuing education initiatives by creating, organizing, and delivering advanced
training sessions, including in-services for staff and presentations at industry events
· Must demonstrate a advanced level of knowledge, skills, and abilities of Certified Surg Technologist
Graduate of Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Surgical Technology Programs OR Military Surgical Technology Program
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Tech in Surgery (TS-C) from National Center for Competency Testing
Three (3) years of surgical experience. Demonstrated competency in at least five (5) surgical specialties.
