Job DetailsFusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Cytotechnologist for a 13 week travel assignment in San Francisco, CA. Required Qualifications:- One year of recent experience as a Cytotechnologist
- Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
- Must demonstrate proficiency in microscopic examination of cytology specimens
- Active CT (ASCP) certification required (or equivalent, such as AMT, AAB, HEW)
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
A Cytotechnologist is a specialized laboratory professional responsible for examining cell samples under a microscope to detect cancer, infections, or other diseases. Working primarily in pathology and diagnostic laboratories, they analyze specimens from various body sites, including the cervix, lungs, and body fluids, to identify cellular abnormalities. Cytotechnologists play a crucial role in early disease detection and collaborate closely with pathologists to ensure accurate diagnoses and optimal patient care.
Essential Work Functions:- Must be skilled in cytotechnology in techniques such as Papanicolaou (Pap) staining and liquid-based cytology
- Accurately differentiate between normal, reactive, infectious, and malignant cellular changes
- Collaboration with pathologists for diagnostic accuracy to review and confirm suspicious or abnormal findings
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of cytological findings to support timely diagnoses and ensure optimal patient care
- Apply time management skills and prioritize tasks to ensure results are completed within the designated time frames
- Communicate in an effective manner, both oral and written, among a multidisciplinary team
- Ensure quality control and quality assurance measures are met to maintain laboratory accuracy and reliability
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
- Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills
- The ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is required
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending
- Interpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
- Technical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.
- Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
- Sensory - Visual acuity, ability to effectively communicate.
