Description
Position performs clinical diagnostic nuclear medicine testing, including but not limited to general studies, cardiac studies and the computer
interactions associated with these studies. Responsible for utilizing appropriate techniques to ensure quality diagnostic images to be interpreted by
radiologists, cardiologist or medical physicians. Assists authorized users in the application and management of therapeutic radionuclides, is
involved in the procurement, preparation, quality control, calculation, identification, documentation, administration, disposal, storage and safe
handling of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Patient Care:
- Proper film identification to include reviewing images to assure that correct information is supplied.
- Performs nuclear medicine examinations in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Consults with radiologist, cardiologist or MD as necessary with complex situations arise.
- Utilizes technical judgement at all times pertaining to nuclear medicine.
- Receives and interprets nuclear medicine requisitions and / or instructions from physicians.
- Properly positions equipment and patients using supportive materials and immobilizers for best results.
- Ensures proper and fair charging of patient procedures in compliance with Model Compliance and Ethical guidelines.
- Proficiency with proper protocol and associated paperwork for servicing malfunctioning equipment.
- Proficiency at explaining the nuclear medicine process to each patient prior to the examination. Maintains compliance with local, state and federal regulations in radiation safety practices under the supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer or an authorized user.
- Proper use of safety techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patients and themselves.
- Accountable and responsible for verification of proper patient identification, possibly pregnant and written orders.
- May administer radiopharmaceuticals orally and / or intravenously using universal precautions and proper route of administration.
- Assists physicians and nurses with stress test procedures. Assists authorized user in the preparation and applications of therapeutic radionuclides assuring the correct radiopharmaceutical and dosage is / has been prepared.
- Organization/Work Role: Assesses and prioritizes a rapidly changing workload.
- Completes work in a timely manner. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
- Shares responsibility for organizing supplies, tracking, stocking and storing equipment and keeping the department clean.
- Utilizes effective problem-solving skills and refers to appropriate resource when unable to independently manage a situation.
- Utilizes personal protective equipment to protect from exposure to chemical, radiation and infectious hazards.
- Professional:
- Actively participates in department management by providing input at meetings and reading communication.
- Mentors new and less experienced staff and students. Uses policy and procedure manuals and other reference material to ensure proper course of action.
- Quality Improvement:
- Identifies, proposes solutions and assists in implementation of ideas for improvement in patient care and departmental / facility operations. Functions as a patient advocate.
- Participates in the successful implementation of change. Identifies opportunities and implements strategies to decrease waste in supplies and equipment. Assist in evaluation of new procedures, reagents and equipment.

- SPECIAL SKILLS: Must be able to work under deadlines. Must be able to utilize independent decision making skills in a wide variety of situations. Requires a high degree of accuracy in the performance of varied responsibilities. Computer skills required. Frequent contact with employees, physicians, customers, community individuals and volunteers. Must be self-motivated to complete work in a timely manner to meet deadlines
- Minimum Requirements
- Education: Completion of Accredited Nuclear Medicine School or Radiology Technology School.
- Certifications: Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) CRT, CPR.

- Experience: One to two years nuclear medicine experience.
