Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Respiratory Therapist (RT) in Tacoma, Washington. This position involves providing critical respiratory care to pediatric patients within a Level II trauma center equipped with a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day. The role focuses on ventilator management, respiratory therapies, and medication delivery for pediatric patients aged from 1 week to 18 years.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Nights shift from 1900 to 0730, totaling 36 hours per week, with every other weekend rotation and no call.
- Required Qualifications: One year of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience within the last five years, with a preference for one year or more in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (Peds Cardiac ICU). Candidates must hold a Washington State license (in hand or proof of application submitted at least six weeks prior). Certifications needed include Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Skills required include critical care ventilator management, use of Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) devices (CPAP, BIPAP, HuuHuff Non-Invasive Ventilation), and respiratory disease management, including ABG (GEM) interpretation.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience caring for patients from one week to 18 years undergoing various open-heart procedures (such as PDA repair through Tetralogy of Fallot repair), handling moderate cystic fibrosis and chronic tracheostomy/ventilation populations, ECMO program experience, and use of specialized gases like Nitric Oxide and Heliox. Familiarity with electronic medical records, specifically EPIC, is required.
- Additional Information: First-time traveler candidates with five years of experience are encouraged to apply. The unit manages pediatric patients with complex conditions requiring specialized respiratory therapies and gases. Floating to Emergency Room (ER), Medical-Surgical (MedSurg), Oncology, and PICU units may be required. Scrub colors eligible include any, except maroon or spice.
