Description
Job Summary:
The Cytologist position is located in Edinburg, Texas. This role involves screening and diagnosing gynecological cytology specimens, with a focus on maintaining high quality standards within a clinical laboratory setting. The role requires collaboration with pathology professionals to ensure accurate and timely diagnosis.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Day shift with flexible hours, Monday through Friday, with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of cytotechnology or certification approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), or an Associate's Degree with a one-year internship in an accredited school of cytotechnology; at least three years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Preferred Qualifications: Licensure or registration as a Cytotechnologist (CT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred.
- Position Responsibilities:
- Promotes the organizations mission, vision, and values.
- Coordinates laboratory procedures and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists (CAP), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
- Reviews test results and quality control data, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Conducts microscopic examination of gynecological specimens, identifying abnormal changes and infectious agents.
- Enters results into Laboratory Information System (LIS) and verifies for report release.
- Assists in evaluating new testing methods and laboratory equipment.
- Participates in training and quality assurance activities.
- Maintains proper documentation and adherence to federal and state regulations.
- Additional Information: This role involves managing daily laboratory operations and participating in proficiency testing to ensure ongoing quality standards.
