The respiratory therapy role ensures that evaluation and treatment services are completed in a timely, accurate, and reliable manner for inpatients and outpatients, as well as affiliated community groups as needed. Responsibilities focus on performing respiratory therapy procedures, supporting cardiopulmonary diagnostic and therapeutic services, and documenting results appropriately. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details

• Schedule: Nights and every other weekend; 36 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited School for Respiratory Therapy; New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License; Registered by the NBRC as a Respiratory Therapist; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications per American Heart Association (AHA) standards (BLS accepted from AHA, Health Services International (HSI), or American Red Cross); critical care and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience; up to three (3) years of experience (as stated); ability to collaborate effectively with clinical teams; attention to detail, communication (verbal and written), continuous learning, critical thinking/judgement, planning/organizing and time management, problem solving, quality focus, reliability, safety and risk management, and technical expertise.
• Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Additional Information: Responsibilities include administering respiratory therapy procedures as directed by the manager, performing aerosol therapy and secretion mobilization therapy (CPT/Flutter/PEP), incentive spirometry, M.D.I. therapy, suctioning, extubation, oxygen therapy on approved devices, and BiPAP-CPAP therapy including alarm management. Duties also include cough assist/vest therapy, high flow cannula/humidifier therapy and alarm management, pulmonary function screening, pulse oximetry, adult and pediatric EKG, and managing mechanical ventilation and ventilator alarms. The role includes arterial puncture and blood gas laboratory analysis with blood gas quality control, supporting patient healthcare information systems (Soarian), and medication administration/dispensing systems (MAK and McKesson). Verification and documentation of physician orders for pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are required. The role also supports fit testing in coordination with Employee Health and performs Basic Life Support (BLS) when necessary after certification. External patient transport participation may be required; confirmation is requested in the submission packet.
