Description

Job Summary
Respiratory Therapist (Registered) Sylvania, Ohio. The role provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory therapy and transporting patients into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of the professional license and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patients, recommending and carrying out treatment plans, operating ventilatory equipment and oxygenation devices, performing monitoring and diagnostic support tasks, and documenting and communicating patient status. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

  • Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Respiratory Therapist Registered license; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • Additional Information:
    • Evaluates patients and recommends a treatment plan.
    • Explains the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and provides necessary discharge education.
    • Performs physician-prescribed respiratory treatments, including operating ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
    • Performs chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
    • Performs suctioning using oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
    • Performs oximetry and capnography monitoring according to policy and performs routine review of chest x-rays to support ongoing evaluation.
    • Performs 12-Lead EKG and supports basic arrhythmia recognition.
    • Performs pulmonary function studies according to policy (e.g., NIF, VC).
    • Assists with respiratory care procedures according to policy, such as bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, and chest tube placement.
    • Performs drainage via PleurX catheter or similar devices where applicable.
    • Provides tracheostomy care according to policy, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent).
    • Performs arterial puncture according to policy and records and reports test results, including monitoring and reporting ventilation efficiency.
    • For hospitals with moderate complexity labs, follows policies and procedures related to laboratory testing, including specimen handling, equipment use, documentation and reporting of results, quality controls, and maintenance across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases.
    • Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
    • Inserts and removes endotracheal tubes using free hand technique and/or a video laryngoscope system.
    • Sets up, performs self-test on, and operates, maintains, and monitors mechanical ventilation on various types of equipment; assists with preventive maintenance and repair as needed.
    • Records pertinent treatment information and patient response in respiratory therapy records and the patient chart; communicates during hands-off shift-to-shift reporting and walking rounds.
    • Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging, including data entry, verification, and correction of errors.
