Job Summary
Respiratory Therapist (Pediatric) Detroit, MI. The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory therapy and safely transporting patients into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, administering physician-prescribed therapies, monitoring cardiopulmonary status, and documenting and communicating clinical findings during shift handoffs. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

- Schedule: Nights, 12 hours per shift; minimum 48 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Respiratory Therapist Registered; Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

- Additional Information: Provides physician-prescribed routine respiratory care using ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices. Performs chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance; suctioning using oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods; oximetry and capnography monitoring per policy; and routine review of chest x-rays to determine need for further evaluation. Performs pulmonary function studies per policy and supports respiratory care-related procedures per policy, including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy procedures, and chest tube placement. Performs drainage of the chest via PleurX catheter or similar device where applicable, and provides tracheostomy care per policy, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent). Performs arterial puncture per policy and monitors, records, and reports results. For moderate complexity labs, follows policies and procedures related to laboratory testing, including specimen handling, equipment use, documentation and result reporting, quality controls, and maintenance across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases. Performs 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition, and conducts insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes using free-hand technique and/or a video laryngoscope system. Sets up, self-tests, operates, maintains, and monitors mechanical ventilation equipment as required, and assists with preventative maintenance and repair. Records respiratory care treatments and patient responses in respiratory care records and the patient chart, and communicates therapy effectiveness with attending and pulmonary physicians. Completes shift-to-shift handoff communication during walking rounds and maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging through required data entry, verification, and correction of errors. Performs other duties as assigned.
