Nuclear Medicine Technologist Biddeford, Maine
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and performs nuclear diagnostic studies while maintaining the nuclear medicine laboratory and ensuring high standards of patient care. This role supports safe imaging practices using established clinical protocols and regulatory requirements. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Days shift with 8 shift hours and a minimum of 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Accredited certification through National Medical Testing Certification Board (NMTCB) or Registered Technologist (ARRT) and licensure through the state of Maine
- Prepares the room and patient for exams and injects radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging procedures
- Calculates, measures, and records radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed of according to applicable state and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations and practice policies
- Performs procedures to acquire images according to established protocols, using professional judgment to adapt imaging when required
- Consults with Radiologists and other healthcare team members as needed to ensure optimal imaging is performed
- Uses appropriate patient positioning tools, devices, and equipment adjustments, including ergonomically correct scanning techniques, to support patient comfort and safety and to reduce risk of compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the caregiver
- Monitors patient condition during procedures and initiates emergency procedures if needed due to changes in patient status
- Reconfirms patient identification, gathers relevant information for the reason for the procedure, confirms patient preparation and contraindications, and addresses and documents patient questions and concerns while providing accurate explanations and instructions
- Processes, performs image quality control, archives images, ensures documentation is complete in all systems, and reports diagnostic observations to physicians
- Acts as a resource for students, new hires, and fellows by providing clinical and/or didactic instruction, and evaluates and documents student performance according to established processes
- Cleans equipment, determines safe operation, and takes appropriate steps for additional assessment or corrective action as needed
- Performs required equipment testing for the quality control program and adheres to all department workflows, policies, and procedures
- If assigned, safely handles hazardous drugs, which may include receipt, storage, compounding, repackaging, dispensing, transporting, and/or disposing of hazardous drugs
