Job Summary
Respiratory Therapist Pediatric (RT PEDS) Location: VA. This position involves providing intensive respiratory care and patient transport within a healthcare facility, adhering to professional scope and supervision standards. The role includes evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and educating patients upon discharge, with a focus on pediatric respiratory therapy.
Job Details
- Certifications, Education Requirements, Degree Requirements, Location Requirements, Experience: Valid active VA license; 0 years of experience required.
- Schedule: Days shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Performs routine and specialized respiratory treatments, including operating ventilatory equipment, nebulizers, and oxygen devices.
- Conducts chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry, capnography monitoring, and review of chest x-rays.
- Performs 12-Lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition; conducts pulmonary function studies per policy.
- Assists with respiratory procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
- Performs arterial punctures, monitors ventilation efficiency, records treatment responses, and communicates with physicians regarding therapy efficacy.
- Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots ventilatory equipment, ensuring proper setup, calibration, and maintenance.
- Maintains accurate documentation in patient records and respiratory therapy charge logs.
- Ensures adherence to policies related to laboratory testing, specimen handling, and equipment maintenance.
- Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Performs emergency airway management using video laryngoscopy and other techniques.
- Communicates shift updates, ensures shift handoffs are thorough, and reports treatment outcomes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Behavior Characteristics: Professional, attentive, and capable of working independently within scope of practice.
- Float: Float rotation may be required.
