Job Summary
Respiratory Therapist Registered (RT PEDS) This position is located at the healthcare organizations facility and involves providing advanced respiratory care to pediatric patients. The role encompasses diagnosing, evaluating, treating, managing, and controlling deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, acting as a resource to the Certified Respiratory Therapist staff. The Respiratory Therapist may also be responsible for clinical projects or assignments as designated by leadership.
Job Details
- Provides advanced-level respiratory care to pediatric patients, including performing, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic testing procedures such as arterial gases.
- Oversees and troubleshoots the operation of equipment to ensure optimal patient care.
- Initiates Respiratory Protocols and interventions based on assessments and within department criteria.
- Administers medications safely, evaluates effects, and communicates patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments.
- Maintains awareness of patients' overall condition and makes appropriate care recommendations.
- Recognizes educational needs of patients and families related to health promotion and wellness.
- Educates patients and families on self-care techniques and modalities.
- Completes documentation in accordance with departmental standards, accurately tracking productivity and monitoring supplies and equipment.
- Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying potential areas for improvement and safety hazards.
- Serves as a resource, consultant, and mentor to department staff through development of others.
- Participates in quality improvement and research activities to guide standards of patient care.
- May be required to float to other departments within scope of competency and qualifications based on business needs.
- May be placed on-call during scheduled shifts.
- Schedule: Nights, 8-hour shifts, minimum 40 hours per week.
- Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) approved by the National Board for Respiratory Care, current license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice, and Basic Life Support (BLS).
