Job Description:

The Operating Room Registered Nurse initiates a plan of care based on identified medical, surgical, and nursing diagnoses that are consistent with knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, human behavior, and outlined standards of care in the Operating Room (O.R.). The nurse directs and coordinates with other departments and ancillary personnel to provide a safe environment and a high standard of quality care, providing nursing care to surgery patients and supervising personnel in these and related activities.

Responsibilities:

• Carefully assess and monitor the physical status of the patient.
• Collect and record necessary data through patient interviews and other sources.
• Utilize information appropriately in planning and delivering patient care.
• Actively listen to the patient and provide appropriate responses.
• Identify interventions necessary for expected outcomes.
• Anticipate potential problems and adapt to the surgical procedure.
• Demonstrate competency to create and maintain a sterile field.
• Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins.
• Evaluate nursing intervention in relation to established expected outcomes.
• Reassess status, identifying unresolved problems, and implement revised plan of care.

Requirements:

• State of California Registered Nurse License required.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required.
• American Heart Association ACLS certification required.
• Minimum of two years experience in operating room required.
• Ability to work effectively with patients, peers, physicians, and ancillary departments.
