Description
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in critical care settings and be prepared to handle a diverse range of complex patient needs.
Unit Information
- Type: Critical Care
- Bed Capacity: CVICU - 12 beds, COVID - 8 beds, MS ICU - 8 beds, PCU - 16 beds (up to 20 with double occupancy)
- Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:1-2 in ICU based on acuity; 1:3-4 in PCU
Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate patient conditions within the ICU and PCU.
- Provide care for patients with a variety of diagnoses, including COVID-19, neurological conditions, and post-surgical recovery.
- Administer medications and titrate critical care drips as mandated.
- Respond to emergencies, including rapid response and code blue situations.
- Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and family members concerning patient status and care plans.
- Maintain patient safety and support quality care standards according to best practices.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Experience in critical care nursing with demonstrated proficiency in monitoring EKGs and interpreting ABGs.
- Familiarity with equipment and procedures relevant to ICU settings, including ventilators and advanced cardiac devices.
- Preferred skills: Experience with IABP, Prismaflex CRRT, and other critical care modalities.
Shifts and Scheduling
- Standard shifts are 12 hours, typically from 7 AM to 7 PM or vice versa.
- Schedules are made four weeks in advance with some flexibility for self-scheduling options.
- Weekend requirements include four weekend shifts per pay period, which can vary.
- Holidays: One holiday and an evening prior to another holiday will be expected.
Orientation and Training
- Comprehensive orientation includes 8 hours of general hospital orientation and two 12-hour shifts on the unit with a preceptor and designated buddy for support.
- Additional training provided for nurses with specialized skills needing orientation.
Location
Opportunities available in various locations with positions requiring the ability to float between units as needed.
Additional Information
- Travelers may be subject to low census calls but not scheduled stand-by shifts.
- Professional attire required; any color professional scrubs are permitted.
- No nurse aides are present on this unit; RNs are expected to perform all related tasks.
