Unit Information

Location: Corpus Christi, TX

Floor: 1st Floor

Building: Bay Area Emergency Department

General Information

This emergency department operates with:

• Number of Beds: 16 with 8 hall chairs
• Number of Staff: 6-7 per shift

Staff Composition

Day Shift:

• 1 Charge Nurse
• 1 Triage Nurse
• 4-5 Nurses (one is mid-shift)
• 1 Unit Secretary
• 1-2 Technicians

Night Shift:

• 1 Charge Nurse
• 1 Triage Nurse
• 4-5 Nurses (one is mid-shift)
• Unit Secretary from 7 PM to midnight
• 1 Technician

Patient Ratios

Aim for a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4, with a focus on low acuity ESI levels 4 and 5, with the potential to take up to 6 patients.

Electronic Medical Record

Utilizes Meditech; vital signs will flow directly into the chart.

Qualifications

Must Have:

• Compassion, urgency, and teamwork skills
• Level II or Level III trauma experience
• Certifications: TNCC, ENPC or PALS, ACLS, BLS

Preferred Skills:

• CEN or TCRN certification
• More than two years of emergency department experience

Typical Procedures Performed

• Assessments and documentation
• Medication administration
• Wound care and splinting
• IV insertions
• Urine collection and lab draws
• Caring for patients from ESI 5 through 1

Dress Code

Preferred scrub color: Royal Blue.

Team spirit is encouraged on specific days, where you can wear your team jersey (e.g., Astros, Cowboys).

Unit Guidelines and Policies

Shift huddles at 7 AM and 7 PM are mandatory for all staff, unless providing critical care at that time. EMTALA training is also required.
