Description
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in providing exceptional care for critically ill newborns. This role requires a minimum of two years of recent Level II NICU experience, with certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) being mandatory. STABLE certification is preferred.
Unit Information
- Unit: Level II NICU & Special Care Nursery (SCN)
- Bed Capacity: NICU - 12 Private Rooms; SCN - 18 Beds
- Care Ratios: NICU - 2:1; SCN - 3:1
- Charge Nurse: Yes, may take patient assignment based on census
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
- Holidays: Participates in unit holiday rotation
- Scrub Color: Navy
Patient Care Responsibilities
The NICU Registered Nurse will work with a variety of complex cases, including but not limited to:
- Respiratory complications (ventilation support, CPAP)
- Hyperbilirubinemia
- Meconium aspiration
- Respiratory distress syndrome
- Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPHN)
- Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR)
- Chorioamnionitis
- Sepsis management
- Support for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)
- Utilization of PICC lines, UAC, and UVC
Shift & Scheduling
- Standard Shift: 12-hour shifts, primarily 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- Orientation: Includes 2 shifts with a preceptor
- Self-scheduling: Flexible scheduling with requests reviewed by the scheduler
Additional Notes
Travelers will not be floated out of the NICU. Additional support services, including Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy, are available 24/7. The charting system utilized is Cerner, creating a streamlined approach to patient care documentation.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent Level II NICU experience required
- BLS and NRP certifications are required; STABLE preferred
