Description
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This role involves providing high-quality care to adult patients with a variety of medical conditions including cardiac, respiratory, and renal issues. A commitment to patient care and teamwork is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care in a fast-paced environment.
- Monitor and assess patient conditions, including vital signs and changes in status.
- Administer medications and titrate drips as required, including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Insulin.
- Utilize advanced medical equipment and technology.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement patient-centered care plans.
- Document patient information accurately using the EPIC charting system.
- Participate in unit activities to improve patient experience scores and communication.
- Provide patient education and support to families.
- Float to MedSurg or ICU as needed to manage patient acuity.
Shift and Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630.
- Weekend requirements: Every other weekend.
- Holiday requirements: Minimum of 2 holidays during the contract period.
- Available shifts include both day and night rotations.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
- Competency in managing arterial lines.
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
- Successful completion of an open-book skills exam during orientation, with a passing score of 90%.
- No artificial nails allowed for hygiene and patient safety.
Unit Information
- 40-bed unit with an average daily census of 24 patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both days and nights.
- Common diagnostics include cardiac, surgical, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, and stroke patients.
- Support staff available, including nurse aides and patient care techs with a ratio of 1:12.

The diverse patient population requires sensitivity to cultural differences, particularly for Hispanic and Somalian communities. Strong feedback receptiveness and a commitment to learning are essential.
