Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 16 (with 8 hall chairs)
• Number of Staff: 6-7 per shift
• Patient Ratios: 1:4, low acuity ESI 4 & 5, may take up to 6

Shift Information

• Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 4-5 nurses (one is mid-shift), 1 ultrasound (US) technician, 1-2 techs
• Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 4-5 nurses (one is mid-shift), US from 7 PM to midnight, 1 tech

Equipment

• Cardiac Monitors
• Baxter IV Pumps
• HP Vital Signs Monitors
• Tonopen

Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

Meditech, with vital signs flowing into the chart

Required Skill Set

• Must Have:
• Compassion, Urgency, and Teamwork
• Level II or Level III trauma experience
• Certifications: TNCC, ENPC or PALS, ACLS, BLS
• Preferred:
• CEN or TCRN certifications
• More than two years of emergency department experience

Typical Procedures

• Assessments and documentation
• Medication administration
• Wound care and splinting
• IV insertion and management
• Urine collection and lab draws
• Caring for ESI levels 5 through 1

Dress Code

Scrub color: Royal Blue preferred. Incorporate team spirit by wearing your team jersey on designated days.

Unit Guidelines/Policies

Mandatory shift huddles take place at 7 AM and 7 PM for all staff, except those providing critical care at the time.

EMTALA training is required for all staff members.

Additional Information

This unit is transitioning from a Level IV to a Level II trauma designation, providing opportunities to work with new equipment and technology. Team members enjoy flexible schedule options and work with a dedicated and experienced staff.
