Description
We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our team in the Special Care Nursery. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of NICU experience, specifically Level II, with a preference for Level III experience.
Unit Information
- Unit: Special Care Nursery (SCN)
- Bed Capacity: 12 licensed SCN neonatal beds
- Average Deliveries: 325 per month
- Average Census: 10 patients in the Special Care Nursery
- Patient Ratios: Typically 3:1, depending on acuity (2:1 in more acute cases)
Responsibilities
As an RN in the Special Care Nursery, you will be responsible for:
- Caring for neonates 32 weeks and above
- Managing patients on CPAP and High Flow oxygen
- Providing care for feeder-growers and managing conditions such as sepsis and hyperbilirubinemia
- Administering medications and monitoring IV lines; nurses are required to start their own IVs
Required Certifications
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- STABLE (Stabilization of Newborns)
Qualifications
Candidates must possess the following:
- Minimum of 2 years NICU experience; Level II NICU experience required, Level III preferred
- Certification in required skill areas
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Schedule & Availability
- 12-hour shifts, primarily night shifts (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts per month
- Holiday requirement: one major and one minor holiday
- No call requirements
Additional Information
- No charge nurse assignment typically; one low acuity patient may be assigned on occasion
- Presence of NNPs and Pediatrician coverage 24/7
- PCT assistance available for patient care duties
- Traveling nurses may float to the sister facility as needed
- Charting system used: Cerner
