Description

Occupational Therapist

Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing occupational therapy services to outpatient populations, which includes assessment, treatment, and care, as well as participating in educational instruction with patients and their families. The Occupational Therapist must be adept at interpreting a patient's self-report, behaviors, and understanding the cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental maturation processes. Treatment plans should be tailored to reflect the individual developmental needs and treatment requirements of each patient.

Essential Functions

  • Obtain comprehensive patient medical and social history and current status information.
  • Evaluate each patient as directed by the ordering physician, develop care plans, and administer treatments to individuals with physical disabilities resulting from injury, disease, or surgery.
  • Re-evaluate and assess patient status, making adjustments to treatment programs as necessary.
  • Administer therapeutic treatments using physical agents, biomechanical and neurophysiological principles, and assistive devices to relieve pain, restore maximum functions, and prevent disability.
  • Document all pertinent information in the electronic medical record post direct patient care and educate patients and families about the treatment plans and procedures.
  • Complete billing procedures for services rendered on a daily basis.
  • Utilize techniques such as heat, electricity, water, massage, and exercise as part of treatment protocols.
  • Prepare reports that include evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Provide guidance to all supporting staff involved in occupational therapy patient care.
  • Effectively organize daily workloads and manage time for self and assisting support staff efficiently.
  • Monitor the safety and effectiveness of all patient care equipment and the work environment, reporting any deficiencies to the Director immediately.

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association preferred; advanced degree or training is also preferred.
  • License: Active or eligible to obtain a Washington state Occupational Therapist license.
  • Experience: One year of outpatient care experience preferred; hand therapy and splinting experience highly valued. Capability to evaluate and provide care across the age continuum, from school-aged children to geriatric patients.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, crouching, and stooping.
  • Considerable physical activity requires heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility are crucial, along with good reading eyesight and the ability to see clearly at various distances.
  • Keen mental faculties are necessary for assessment and decision-making skills in patient management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate information exchange with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and their families.

Additional Information

Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (HCP) certification is required to be completed within 3 months of hire.
