Position Description
Location: Alexandria, LA
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 26
- Patient Ratios: 2:1
- Staffing: Registered Nurses and Unit Secretary/COVID Runner. Total care is provided by RNs.
- Equipment: Includes ventilators, Alaris IV pumps, balloon pumps, ventriculostomy drains, and glucometers. Use of iMobile phones and technology is standard for all staff. PPE measures include masks, face shields, goggles, PAPR’s, and hoods for COVID-19 patients.
- Documentation System: Meditech utilizing Evidence-Based Clinical Documentation (EBCD).
- Scheduling: Twelve-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM; every other weekend and holiday requirements apply.
- Floating Policy: Nursing staff may float to other Medical-Surgical Units as needed, with priority given to Intensive Care Units.
- Patient Experience: Emphasizes hourly rounding, bedside hand-off reporting, and completion of “My Care Board” during hand-off. AIDET is utilized to ensure compassionate connected care.

Hiring Profile
- Must Have: Willingness to care for COVID-19 patients, ICU experience, positive attitude, flexibility, teamwork, a passion for excellence, self-motivation, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a diverse environment.
- Advanced Skills: Competence in ventilator management, critical care drip knowledge, thorough assessment skills, and proficient understanding of cardiac, neuro, and respiratory systems, including proper donning and doffing of PPE.
- Procedures Performed: Intubations, cardioversions, ventriculostomy drain placement and management, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) management, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and proning of patients.
- Certifications Required: ACLS and BLS; TNCC certification is a plus.
Dress Code
- Ceil blue scrubs
- Optional white or ceil blue scrub jacket
- Green surgery scrubs provided when caring for COVID-19 patients.
