Respiratory Therapist

Unit Information

The respiratory therapy unit is equipped to support a diverse patient population with various needs.

• Number of Beds: 500+
• Number of Staff: 30
• Day Shift Staffing: 6 therapists, including charge person
• Night Shift Staffing: 5 therapists, including charge person

Essential Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidates will possess the following skills:

• Required Skills:
  • Basic floor therapies (Nebulizer treatments, Chest Physiotherapy, Nocturnal Pulse Oximetry, and obtaining Arterial Blood Gases)
  • Bipap management
• Preferred Skills:
  • Ventilator and Bipap management
  • ICU experience

Typical Procedures

Common procedures performed on this unit include:

• Hand-held nebulization (HHN)
• Chest Physiotherapy (CPT)
• Bipap and Ventilator management
• Extubation

Certifications Required

• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Floating Areas

Therapists may be required to float to:

• Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
• Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
• Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
• Step-down units

Dress Code

The standard dress code is royal blue scrubs.

Work Schedule

This position involves 3 shifts of 12 hours each, from 7 PM to 7 AM, with rotating weekends.

Experience Required

Applicants should have at least 2 years of relevant experience.
