Description

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Description

This position requires a dynamic and experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. Candidates must bring a minimum of two years of experience in a hospital setting and hold an active nursing license in Kentucky or a compact state upon application.

Unit Information

  • Number of Beds: 7 Labor & Delivery, 14 Mother-Baby, Level 2 NICU/ Newborn Nursery
  • Number of Staff: 58
  • Day Shift Staff: 6-8 RNs, 1 OB Tech, 1 Unit Clerk
  • Night Shift Staff: 5-8 RNs, 1 OB Tech, 1 Unit Clerk
  • Patient Ratios:
    • L&D: 2:1
    • Mother-Baby: 6-8:1
    • NICU: 1-4:1 (depending on acuity)
  • Type of Equipment: Alaris pumps, Corometrics 250 series Fetal Monitor, Monica monitor, Ranger fluid warmer
  • EMR System: Meditech Expanse and Centricity Perinatal (CPN)

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery
  • Ability to circulate for cesarean sections

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of Labor and Delivery experience

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections
  • Induction of labor (using Cook catheter, Cervidil, oxytocin)
  • Intrauterine fetal demise (IUFD) management
  • IV insertion and laboratory draws
  • Sterile vaginal exams
  • Assistance with epidurals and foley catheter placements

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • AWHONN certification (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)

Dress Code

Scrubs provided for infant security.

Schedule Requirements

Every other weekend (Friday and Saturday night) is expected.
