Description
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through a systematic nursing process that includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves directing and coordinating nursing care for patients in alignment with nursing practice standards. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is essential to provide quality, cost-effective care and to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The nurse will act as a resource person when needed and will apply age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in patient care. This position encompasses the care of patients from birth to elderly during pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases.
Position Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Must have completed a nursing education program from an NLN approved institution. An Associate Degree in Nursing is required, with a BSN preferred.
- Minimum Experience: 1–2 years of experience in an operating room setting is required.
- License, Certification, Registration: Must hold a current, unrestricted Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of Alaska. Current BLS & ACLS certifications are required; PALS certification is preferred. The successful candidate must pass and maintain competencies for this position. National Certification in Surgery/PACU is preferred.
Equipment/Tools
- Office equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine)
- Medical equipment, including cardiac monitors and autoclave
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to practice nursing according to Alaska's regulations for Registered Nursing
- Cognitive and technical knowledge required to manage patient care across various settings
- Flexibility in work schedule and capacity for independent actions within established limits
- Ability to utilize the nursing process in patient care provision
- Skills in administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, and providing education to patients and their families
- Knowledge of AORN standards
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Aptitude for working in a patient care environment
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulatory documents
- Ability to document care delivery actions and adhere to guidelines/procedures
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to queries from various groups
- Theoretical understanding of nursing processes, care management, and continuity of care
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to perform basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, draw and interpret graphs, and input data into computers
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and address a range of concrete variables
- Ability to interpret various forms of instructions, including written, oral, and diagrammatic
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role includes supervising Administrative Assistants, Schedulers, and CSR Technicians in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
Shift Information
This position may require flexible shifts, including both day and night shifts.

Holiday coverage is not required for this position.
