Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our dynamic float pool. The position will involve working in various inpatient units, including Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Progressive Care throughout multiple locations within the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care in accordance with nursing standards and protocols.
  • Manage and monitor patient conditions, including the administration of medications and therapeutic interventions.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and effectively manage titratable drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Assist in the care of geriatric and orthopedic patients, including post-procedure care for cardiac interventions.
  • Participate in unit-specific orientation and training.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid RN license.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting is required.
  • Current certifications in BLS and ACLS are mandatory.
  • Ability to interpret EKG strips independently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nurse-Patient Ratios

  • PCU: 1:4
  • Medical Surgical Telemetry: 1:5-6

Equipment and Technology

Familiarity with various respiratory equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow systems is required. The units are equipped with telemetry monitoring systems, and monitor techs will assist RNs in patient monitoring.

Scheduling and Assignments

Shifts are scheduled from 7 AM to 7 PM and from 7 PM to 7 AM. The schedule is created by the staffing office and published six weeks in advance. Nurses will receive unit assignments via text message two hours before the start of their shift, requiring adaptability to different units. Weekend rotations are included, and holiday shifts will involve participation in a rotation with permanent staff.

Work Environment

The position provides opportunities to float between units, including responsibilities in stepdown and medical telemetry environments. Self-scheduling is not permitted; however, night shift scheduling may accommodate block scheduling to some extent.

Cancellation Policy

Maximum of 4 canceled shifts per contract; this is reduced to 3 for contracts under 13 weeks.

Charting System

Utilize Cerner for electronic charting and documentation.

Additional Information

This position requires flexibility and a commitment to patient-centered care in a fast-paced, acute setting. Candidates must be prepared for varied patient cases and possess the skills to work independently as well as part of a team.
