ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

An opportunity exists for an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to provide specialized care in a cardiovascular intensive care unit. This position requires a strong foundation in crucial nursing skills and clinical competencies specific to cardiovascular patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret and manage dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure.
• Monitor and assist with complex interventions including CABG, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, and Impella management.
• Deliver post-operative care for cardiac surgery patients.
• Provide pre/post cardiac catheterization and intervention care.
• Utilize advanced monitoring techniques such as Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring.
• Administer various therapies including CVVHD/CRRT and IV therapy.
• Manage medication protocols involving continuous IV sedation and emergency medications.
• Conduct CVA and acute stroke management.
• Assist with ventilator and BiPAP management, including care for ventilated patients.
• Perform phlebotomy and manage surgical wounds with drains.
• Implement infection prevention strategies and isolation precautions, including the use of PPE.

Work Schedule

This position requires the ability to work 12-hour shifts during the day. Nurses will be expected to work every other weekend and on designated holidays, including Memorial Day. Orientation will involve 8 hours of non-billable time.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in cardiovascular intensive care nursing.
• Active Illinois nursing license.
• Current certifications in CPR, ACLS, and NIHSS.
• Thorough understanding of Epic electronic health record system.
• Proven competency in critical care nursing skills and procedures.
• Ability to float to different units as needed within the region.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must successfully pass an EKG test with a score of 80% or above prior to starting the position. A reference from a supervisor within the last year is also required.
