Description

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (LD RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (LD RN) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients throughout the labor and delivery process. This includes managing high-risk obstetrical patients, circulating in the OR, and supporting both mothers and newborns during and after delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide care for high-acuity labor and delivery patients.
  • Manage labor processes, perform cervical checks, and interpret fetal monitoring strips.
  • Assist in the delivery of babies, including stabilizing and caring for healthy newborns.
  • Triage patients and assist with OB ED responsibilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Facilitate post-partum care for mothers and newborns, ensuring full recovery.
  • Educate patients and families about the labor and delivery process and post-delivery care.

Patient Care Environment

The unit consists of:

  • 15 labor rooms
  • 12 antepartum beds
  • 4 OB emergency department beds
  • 3 operating rooms
  • 18 postpartum beds

Patient Types

We cater to a variety of patient needs, including:

  • High-risk pregnancies
  • C-sections (approximately 33% C-section rate)
  • Preterm labor
  • Medication administration such as magnesium sulfate
  • Insulin drips (rarely utilized)
  • Multiple births and management of post-partum hemorrhage

Staffing and Support

The unit is supported by:

  • CNA support for transport and room assistance
  • Scrub Techs and LPNs for additional clinical assistance
  • Resource RNs for staffing flexibility
  • Respiratory Therapists available 24/7 for high-risk deliveries
  • Anesthesia services for pain management during labor

Qualifications

  • Active BLS, NRP, and Intermediate FHM (AWHONN) certifications required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in Labor and Delivery; 3 years preferred for first-time travelers.
  • Experience with high-acuity patient care and labor management.
  • Ability to triage and prioritize care for a diverse patient population.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on teamwork.
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems, specifically EPIC.

Work Schedule

This position involves working 4 shifts of 12 hours each week, totaling 48 hours. The schedule follows a rotating weekend pattern every other week.

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation that includes both facility training and unit-specific instruction. Orientation will involve a combination of hospital orientation and hands-on time with experienced staff.

Additional Information

This position may require floating to antepartum and postpartum units based on staffing needs. Scrubs will be provided by the facility, and free parking is available for staff.
